Pearl Jam – 20th Anniversary Tour
Very few Rock and Roll bands have been so influential on American Rock music as the Pearl Jam Band. This Seattle, Washington based band was formed in 1990. It took to alternative rock music like fish to water. That era was flooded with alternative rock bands and such music. However, Pearl Jam is one of the very few to have survived from that period. Others have been lost in oblivion.
Over the year, some of the members from the original band left the group and new members joined this band. Therefore, as of date, the band members are Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Matt Cameron. Gossard and Ament have been in the group since the days it was known as Green River. They subsequently formed Mother Love Bone, which band unfortunately had to close down because of the death of one of its members. Nevertheless, the members regrouped as Pearl Jam in 1990 and have survived for 2 decades. To mark the 20th anniversary, the group will be performing at Wisconsin’s Alpine Valley Music Theatre, from September 3rd 2011 through September 4th along with other bands like X’s, and the Strokes. Thereafter, the group will leave for Canada. The band will be performing in 10 concerts during its Canadian tour, which would also be Pearl Jam’s 20th Anniversary tour.
Pearl Jam’s music is often referred to as Grunge music. The group’s first album "Ten" added to the popularity of this music. Grunge music can be best described as a blend of heavy metal, Indie Rock, and hardcore punk. Popular numbers rendered by this group include Even Flow, Once, Jeremy, Footsteps, Hunger Strike, and Alive.
More than 30 million of Pearl Jam’s records have been sold in the US so far. The group also has a large fan following in the other parts of the world. The credit for sales of additional 30 million or so copies of Pearl Jam’s records goes to this foreign fan base.
