Founded in 1989, Orlando Magic is a qualified basketball team based in Orlando, Florida. Being currently coached by Stan Van Gundy, they play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the NBA (National Basketball Association). They entered the NBA as an expansion franchise and had such distinguished NBA stars like Penny Hardaway, Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill, Steve Francis, Dwight Howard, Vince Carter, Gilbert Arenas and many more throughout its young history.

At the Orlando arena, Magic played the first game on the 4th November, 1989 against the visiting New Jersey Nets, who eventually won after the hard-fought game. However, Magic’s first victory came as they defeated the New York Knicks in New York.

In 21 years of their existence, the team has been in 12 playoff appearances. Of the four expansion teams, Orlando Magic has been the most successful franchises awarded by the NBA and were included into the league in 1989 in terms of winning percentage. Along with Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets and Minnesota Timber Wolves, Orlando Magic is the only franchise in the big four sports leagues to play in the city of Orlando. Led by William DuPont III, they became the first ever leading professional sports team in the Orlando area.
