New York knicks known as the knickbockers are the professional National Basketball Association team based in New York City. The team came into existence in 1946.

In 1946, the knicks started playing in the basketball association of America. The team soon merged with the National Basket ball League to form the National Basketball Association. The late 1960s and 1970s gave a good start to the team. In 1967, the team came under the guidance of the then star Red Holzman. At this time, it was led by Walt Clyde, another great player of that time. The team started a new stride with young stars like Willis Reed, Bill Bradley and Walt Frazier. They captured the Atlantic division title with a record 52-30. They acted as solid competitors, hit the record of 18 straight victories and won 60 games. These 60 victories were the highest winning total of any team in the history.

In 1975-76, the Knicks missed the game for the first time after long nine years as they fell into the Atlantic division cellar with a record of 38-44. They continued to struggle but lost the game for the second straight season and were pushed to the third place.

The Knicks have never been able to bring back those glory days. Although they won games in the playoffs but they have not been able to bring a championship home, for nearly 40 years.
