Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Atlanta Hawks are an American qualified basketball team. Formed in 1946, they play in Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference in the NBA (National Basketball Association).

Till 1953, Hawks were one of the worst teams of the league. However, the team moved again and with acquisitions in the free agency and draft, they became one of the league’s top teams. Though in 1951 in a double-overtime thriller in game seven, the team lost to the Boston Celtics. But in 1958, under the leadership of Coach Alex Hannum, the team advanced to the NBA finals and secured their only NBA championship in game 6 against the Celtics.

For the next decade, the Hawks remained one of the NBA’s premier teams. In 1980 the franchise won the Central Division and in 1982 acquired superstar Dominique Wilkins. Winning 50 games from 1985 to 89, the Hawks were among the League’s elite franchise.

However, in the recent years, Hawks again became the league’s worst teams primarily because of awful personnel moves, made by the front office in the 1990’s and 2000’s. In March 2004, the franchise was sold to a group of executives by the name of Atlanta Spirit. The Hawks continued to struggle hard after the change in ownership and gained the notorious reputation of the league’s worst team with just 13 victories.

The Atlanta Hawks? Gone till November

    Friday, May 11, 2012

For a team that is often compromised of reasonable individuals who typically play hard and have their basketball hearts in the right places, the Atlanta Hawks sure do seem to make a hash of things, year in and year out. The group has made the playoffs five seasons in a row, but the squad has never felt like championship material, despite a massive payroll. Worse, for outsiders, is the team's ...
